How do I build a UK credit score from scratch?

As a new arrival in the UK, you will have no credit history, which can make it hard to get credit cards, phone contracts, or mortgages. To build your credit score: register on the electoral roll at your UK address (this is the single biggest boost to your score). Get a basic credit card (some banks offer credit builder cards with low limits) and pay it off in full every month. Set up direct debits for regular bills like phone and utilities — paying on time builds history. Avoid applying for too many credit products at once as each application leaves a mark. Use free credit check services like ClearScore, Credit Karma, or Experian to monitor your score. It typically takes 6-12 months of responsible credit use to build a reasonable score. Having a UK bank account and being on the electoral roll are the foundations.
