How do I import a vehicle to Zimbabwe as a returning diaspora?

Returning diaspora members can import vehicles to Zimbabwe but must comply with ZIMRA (Zimbabwe Revenue Authority) regulations. Key rules: the vehicle must be right-hand drive (Zimbabwe drives on the left). The vehicle should generally be less than 5 years old from the date of manufacture, though older vehicles face higher duties. You are entitled to a duty-free allowance on personal effects if you have been living abroad for a continuous period (typically at least two years) — this may include one motor vehicle depending on current regulations. You will need proof of ownership, proof of residence abroad, and your passport showing travel history. Import duty, VAT, and surtax are calculated based on the vehicle value, age, and engine capacity. Clear the vehicle through a registered clearing agent at the port of entry (usually Beitbridge from South Africa). Duty rates can be high — sometimes 60-100% of the vehicle value for newer vehicles outside the rebate scheme. Always check current ZIMRA rates before purchasing a vehicle to import, as regulations change. Budget for the full landed cost including shipping, duty, and clearing agent fees.
