An estimated 3-4 million Zimbabweans live outside the country, forming one of Africa's largest diasporas relative to population. The major destinations are South Africa (1-3 million, the largest community), the United Kingdom (200,000-500,000, concentrated in London, Luton, Slough, Coventry, and Manchester), the United States (concentrated in Texas, Maryland, and California), Australia, Canada, and Botswana. Most emigration occurred during the economic crises of the 2000s. The diaspora sends home an estimated $1-2 billion in remittances annually.
