The Skilled Worker visa is the primary route for Zimbabweans seeking employment in the UK. Key requirements: (1) JOB OFFER from a UK employer with a valid sponsor licence; (2) CERTIFICATE OF SPONSORSHIP (CoS) issued by the employer; (3) MINIMUM SALARY of £38,700 per year OR the going rate for the occupation (whichever is higher). Some exceptions: new entrants (under 26, recent graduates) may qualify at 70% of the going rate; shortage occupation roles have different thresholds; (4) ENGLISH LANGUAGE — must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) at B1 level minimum, or hold a degree taught in English; (5) FUNDS — must show £1,270 in savings for 28 consecutive days (unless employer certifies maintenance). COSTS: Application fee £719 (up to 3 years) or £1,420 (over 3 years). Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) £1,035 per year. Biometric fee. Total upfront cost for a 3-year visa can exceed £4,000. TIMELINE: Standard processing 3-8 weeks from outside the UK. Priority (extra fee) can reduce to 5 working days. SETTLEMENT: After 5 continuous years on a Skilled Worker visa, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). Absences from the UK must not exceed 180 days in any 12-month period.
