Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a UK benefit for people with long-term health conditions or disabilities that affect their daily living or mobility. It is not means-tested — your income and savings do not matter. To qualify, you must be aged 16-66, have a health condition or disability that has affected you for at least 3 months and is expected to continue for at least 9 months, and be habitually resident in the UK. Immigration status matters — you generally need settled status, ILR, refugee status, or certain qualifying visas. PIP has two components: daily living (help with things like preparing food, washing, dressing, managing medication) and mobility (help with getting around). Each component has a standard and enhanced rate. Apply online at gov.uk or by calling the PIP helpline. You will need to complete a detailed form describing how your condition affects you and may attend an assessment. Having supporting evidence from your GP, consultant, or therapist strengthens your claim. Many Zimbabweans in the UK with qualifying conditions may be entitled but unaware of PIP.
