Many Zimbabweans in the UK need to maintain financial connections with Zimbabwe. Several Zimbabwean banks offer dedicated diaspora accounts:
ZB Bank Diaspora Account: Non-resident current account for Zimbabweans abroad. Requires notarised copies of passport, Zimbabwean ID, proof of foreign residence, 3-month bank statement, and a bank reference letter. Allows RTGS transactions and online banking.
Steward Bank Diaspora Current Account: Non-interest bearing account with no restrictions. Initial deposit USD $20, monthly fee USD $5. Includes Visa/Mastercard, internet banking, and ability to receive remittances through WorldRemit. Can pay school fees and make local transfers. 24-hour application turnaround. First Capital Bank Diaspora Banking: Offers banking solutions for Zimbabweans abroad to transact as if they never left. Contact through enquiry form on their website.
CBZ Bank: Offers diaspora banking services including USD accounts and property investment support.
Practical uses:
- Paying school fees directly to schools in Zimbabwe
- Paying utility bills (ZESA, water, rates)
- Building a savings balance for future return or investment
- Receiving funds from local sources
- Making payments for property purchases or construction
Note: All documents for diaspora account opening must typically be notarised by a lawyer, the Zimbabwe Embassy, or your current UK bank.
