Renewing a Zimbabwean passport from the UK requires an in-person visit to the Zimbabwe High Commission in London — there is no fully online option, as biometric data (fingerprints, digital photograph, and signature) must be captured at the embassy. The process is manageable if you understand the steps, fees, and realistic timelines before you begin.
## The Zimbabwe High Commission in London
The High Commission, also known as Zimbabwe House, is located at 429 Strand, London WC2R 0JR. The main embassy number is +44 (0)20 7836 7755, and the consular email is zimlondon@zimfa.gov.zw. The official website is zimlondon.gov.zw.
The consular section is open Monday to Friday, 09:00–12:30 only. The wider embassy is open until 16:30, but passport and consular services are handled exclusively in the morning window. Appointments are required — walk-ins are not accepted for passport renewals. Appointment slots fill up quickly, particularly around school holidays and peak travel seasons, so book well in advance by calling or emailing the embassy.
## Documents Required
For a standard renewal, bring the following — originals and photocopies of each:
- Current or expired Zimbabwe passport (to be surrendered)
- Zimbabwe national ID card
- Long-form birth certificate
- Two passport-sized photographs (35mm x 45mm, white background)
- Completed application form P34 (note: the embassy does not accept downloaded forms — original forms must be obtained from the High Commission to prevent fraud)
- Proof of UK residence (utility bill, bank statement, or Biometric Residence Permit)
- Marriage certificate or divorce decree if your name has changed
- Citizenship certificate if you are a citizen by descent or registration
For lost or stolen passports, you must also provide a police report. A lost passport is classified as a replacement rather than a renewal and carries an additional penalty fee.
## Fees
All fees are paid in GBP at the prevailing exchange rate. Fees as of 2026 are:
- **Standard Passport (38 pages):** £120, plus a £45 embassy consular fee
- **Express Service:** £270, plus the £45 consular fee
- **Temporary Travel Document (TTD):** £115
Confirm payment methods when booking — the embassy accepts cash (GBP) and bank transfers. Card acceptance should be verified directly with the embassy at the time of booking.
## Processing Times from the UK
Passports are not produced in London. Once your application is submitted, it is couriered to the passport production facility in Harare, produced there, and then returned to London for collection. This adds time compared to applying from within Zimbabwe.
Realistic processing times from the UK are:
- **Standard:** 8–12 weeks (some sources cite up to 3–6 months during busy periods — allow extra time and do not book travel around your expected collection date)
- **Express/Fast-Track:** 3–4 weeks
- **Emergency (7 working days in Zimbabwe):** Allow 7–10 working days from the UK, subject to proof of urgency being accepted
Real-world experiences shared by UK-based Zimbabweans suggest standard processing can sometimes exceed the advertised timeframe, particularly during high-demand periods. If your passport is overdue, contact the embassy directly and quote your receipt number.
## Collection
You will be notified when your passport is ready. Bring your collection receipt and a valid form of ID. Some applicants have arranged postal delivery for an additional fee — ask the embassy about this option at the time of application.
## Emergency Travel Documents
If you need to travel urgently and cannot wait for a full passport, the embassy can issue a Temporary Travel Document (TTD) within 1–2 business days. To qualify, you must provide proof of urgency such as a confirmed flight booking or travel itinerary to Zimbabwe, evidence of your current passport status (expired passport or police report for a lost one), and proof of pending passport application where applicable. The TTD fee is £115.
## Expired Passports
There is no penalty for renewing an expired passport — the standard fees apply and the same process is followed. Simply bring the expired document to your appointment.
## Jurisdiction
The Zimbabwe High Commission in London handles passport services for Zimbabweans living in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Nordic countries. If you are based elsewhere in Europe, check which embassy covers your country of residence.
## Practical Tips
- Book your appointment as early as possible — slots can fill up weeks ahead, especially before school holidays and summer.
- Do not book non-refundable travel based on your expected passport collection date. Processing delays are common.
- Get your passport photos taken at a UK pharmacy or photo booth. Ensure the background is white and the size is 35mm x 45mm.
- Bring both originals and photocopies of every document — missing a copy on the day will mean rescheduling.
- Take a photograph of your receipt/acknowledgement slip as soon as it is issued and keep it somewhere safe.
