Renewing a Zimbabwean passport from the UK starts at the Zimbabwe Embassy in London (Zimbabwe House, 429 Strand). The embassy takes its £65 fee and stamps the application form. You then send the package to Zimbabwe, where all passports are processed. A nominee, a relative living in Zimbabwe who is authorised by letter, pays the processing fee, submits the application and collects the new passport (as of October 2026; source: https://www.zimlondon.gov.zw/?p=5793). Confirm current attendance requirements with the embassy (zimlondon@isp.gov.zw, +44 20 7836 7755).
## The Embassy
The Zimbabwe Embassy is located at 429 Strand, London WC2R 0JR. The nearest tube stations are Charing Cross and Temple. Opening hours (as of October 2026): Monday to Thursday 9:00 to 15:00, Friday 9:00 to 13:00; closed at weekends and on UK and Zimbabwe public holidays (https://www.zimlondon.gov.zw/). Ask the embassy whether you need to book an appointment, using the contact details above, and give your full name, the service required, and two or three preferred dates. If appointments are needed, they fill quickly around school holidays and in the run-up to summer, so book well in advance.
## What to Bring
Come prepared with originals and photocopies of all documents. Typically required are your current or expired Zimbabwe passport (photocopies of the biodata page and any page showing your UK residence status), your original long-form birth certificate, your Zimbabwe national ID card if you are over 16, and proof of UK residence such as a BRP card, utility bill, or bank statement. Passport photographs must be 35mm x 45mm with a white background — standard UK photo booths work, but specify you need Zimbabwean passport dimensions, as they differ slightly from UK passport photo specs. One nearby specialist is IDphotoshop.co.uk at 30 Orange Street, London WC2H 7HH, close to the embassy.
One important note: the embassy does not accept downloaded application forms. You must obtain the official form from the embassy directly, either by visiting in person or requesting it by post, to comply with anti-fraud procedures.
## Fees
As of October 2026 (source: Zimbabwe Embassy London, https://www.zimlondon.gov.zw/?p=5793):
- Embassy administration fee: £65 for every passport application.
- Processing fee, paid at the Passport Office in Zimbabwe (by the applicant or by a relative acting as nominee): US$170 for ordinary processing, up to 21 working days; US$270 for express processing, up to 48 hours. The Passport Office can change these fees.
- The £25 sometimes quoted is the Section 5 Declaration fee for each child who lives in Zimbabwe. It is not a passport fee.
Confirm the accepted payment methods with the embassy.
## Processing Times
As of October 2026 the Passport Office in Zimbabwe processes ordinary applications in up to 21 working days and express applications in up to 48 hours. Those figures do not include the time taken to send the package to Zimbabwe or for the new passport to reach you, so confirm the total timeline with the embassy before relying on express processing for urgent travel.
Real-world processing can exceed published timelines, particularly in busy periods. If you have a specific travel date, allow generous extra time, and do not surrender your old passport if you have international travel booked before your new one arrives.
## Emergency Travel: Temporary Travel Document
If your passport is lost, stolen, or has expired and you need to travel to Zimbabwe urgently, the embassy can issue a Temporary Travel Document within one to two business days. TTDs are valid for travel to Zimbabwe only and are valid for six months. You will need a police report if the passport was lost or stolen, a confirmed travel itinerary, and passport photographs. Ask the embassy for the current TTD fee.
## Common Delays and How to Avoid Them
Incomplete applications are the most frequent cause of delay — the embassy will not process an incomplete submission and you will need a new appointment, adding weeks to your timeline. Double-check every document before attending. Missing photocopies, wrong photo sizes, and blank form sections are the most common errors.
Appointment availability is the second bottleneck. Popular periods — December, Easter, and the summer school holidays — see demand spike sharply. If you anticipate needing a renewal, start the booking process three to four months ahead of when you actually need the passport in hand.
Delays at the Passport Office in Zimbabwe are outside the embassy's control. If the new passport has not been issued within the expected time, your nominee should follow up with the Passport Office, and you can contact the embassy for advice, quoting your embassy receipt number.
