HRW: Zimbabwe using violence to silence critics of presidential term extension

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has accused Zimbabwean authorities of using violence and intimidation against opponents of constitutional amendments that would extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa's term in office. The proposed changes, approved by cabinet approximately one month ago, would allow Mnangagwa to remain in power until at least 2030 — two years beyond his current term's end. HRW's report raises serious concerns about the suppression of political dissent ahead of any referendum on the amendments.
