Journalists Assaulted Ahead of CCC Rally in Gokwe, Zimbabwe

Four journalists were reportedly severely assaulted when violence erupted ahead of a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally addressed by leader Nelson Chamisa in Gokwe, Midlands Province, in August 2022. Journalist Toneo Rutsito reported via social media that the group was attacked for photographing and filming approximately 20 individuals. The incident raised serious press freedom concerns.
