Village Head Chikutu Acquitted at Chiredzi Court — August 2022

Village head Chikutu was acquitted on 24 August 2022 at Chiredzi magistrate's court after the state failed to establish a prima facie case. Chikutu had been arrested in June 2022 on charges of contravening Section 37 of the Criminal Law (Codification & Reform) Act, accused of attending a gathering with intent to promote public violence. Reports noted that intimidation and threats in the area persisted despite the acquittal.
